ABOUT THE BOOK
The Rise of Women and Wealth
“Unless women become financially literate and stop depending on men for their existential value in the world, patriarchy will persist.” — Cindy Couyoumjian, CFP®
The Rise of Women and Wealth: Our Fight for Freedom, Equality, and Control of Our Financial Future is a book about women hammering away at patriarchy.
Beginning with the first wave of feminism some one hundred and seventy years ago, women have systematically chiseled away at the structures of patriarchy by affirming their collective voice in the public sphere of human interaction. Historically, women have been defined by, and in relation to, men. Through successive waves of feminine revolutions, women today are becoming powerful agents of change. It is time for women to stand up and assert their inalienable right to financial self-determination.
In a century, women have fought for and achieved the right to vote entered political office, became part of the workforce, integrated themselves into academic life, and generally participated in every conceivable form of human activity. Women have addressed their exclusion from public life and exposed the ugly side of patriarchy, which manifests itself in sexual harassment and assault. One might argue that women have achieved ultimate parity with men, but that, of course, would be a gross distortion of reality. There is still much work to be done.
While women have broken numerous glass ceilings, they continue to be paid less than men for performing the same job. Women must do away with the last vestiges of patriarchy by achieving financial and economic parity with men.
This book traces the history of patriarchy, explores the three waves of feminism, uncovers the oppressive power of intergenerational trauma and argues that unless women become financially literate and stop depending on men for their existential value in the world, patriarchy will persist.
In other words, for women to become free agents in the world, they need to be able to control their financial narrative.
“This powerful and historically sweeping book examines how women had to endure the generational trauma of patriarchy. Wall Street Journal and Amazon best-selling author, Cindy Couyoumjian, CFP®, offers women a compelling portrait of feminine struggle while simultaneously delivering a message of hope, inspiration, and a pathway towards financial self-determination. Women have achieved dramatic change through three successive waves of feminine revolutions. What is missing today is the fourth-wave financial revolution that will impact future generations of women.”
